I had tons of expectations because I love the originalĪnd this movie isn't in the same league. Reviewed by jbar19 7 / 10 Much better than the Reviews indicate 6.5/10 (Minor Spoilers) Instead, they just continue it with more stupidity like people being turned into rats! *1/2 I feel this movie could have ended at the 90 minute mark. Even that isn't very rewarding because you're expecting something to surpass that at the very end but instead it amounts to literally nothing. The only good scene is when they show the cars pile up. There's no setup or tension because the orphanage from the first film was closed down. The main flaw is that half of the original cast is gone. Now I will give it credit for having pretty good music in it. Why is it called "Blues Brothers 2000" when it was released in 1998? Couldn't they even get that right? This movie features this new kid character being introduced and he does practically nothing for the entire movie except steal a guy's wallet. There are too many mistakes to list in this movie, but the first and foremost is the title. I feel terrible for not watching the original "Blues Brothers" film seeing as how popular it is. It's slow to start, but by 30 minutes you're get hooked, whether you love the music or the absolute ridiculousness. Some people may like this movie others wouldn't. Screams "If I were a tax payer, I'd be ticked off." Smokey & the Bandit + Grand Theft Auto with a flair of the original Blue Brothers movie = Blue Brothers 2000. The chase scenes in this movie were awesome and more creative in the comedy aspect given this is 1998. was cool the young actor was actually quite good as a harmonica player or at least impersonating a harmonica player if they dubbed the music for him. The subplot of taking a troubled kid and turning him into Elwood Jr. Dan Aykroyd in some places was lacking in his acting, mostly in the beginning, others he was rocking. The performances were great, another variety of solid blues songs played. Not everything in the movie was the same.
Given the loss of John Belushi & Cab Calloway, this was a solid tribute & sequel to these gentlemen. Same theme, new characters, music off the charts in blues, blue grass & soul.
